The late model season has officially come to an end, with and a few NLRA series regulars racing their final races of the 2015 season over the last two weekends. Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Moyer Longhorn, and Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Rivinius Ranch MasterSbuilt by JMR, ran at the Fall Classic at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN on October 9th and 10th. Strand finished seventh in the main event, with Cole Schill finishing eleventh. The race was won by two-time series winner this season Don Shaw.

Thursday: Diemel Wins The Race; Strand Wins Second Series Title
Defending Seitz Memorial champion AJ Diemel of Elk Mound, WI kicked off his title defense in style with a win Thursday night at the 'Prelude to the Johnny' at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. Diemel and Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors MB Custom, shared the front row at the start, in a rematch of last years' finale at the Seitz Memorial, as the pair was separated by just .114 seconds last September.
Defending Seitz Memorial champion AJ Diemel of Elk Mound, WI kicked off his title defense in style with a win Thursday night at the 'Prelude to the Johnny' at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. Diemel and Joey Pederson shared the front row at the start, in a rematch of last years' finale at the Seitz Memorial, as the pair was separated by just .114 seconds last September. Diemel lead all 25 laps, and became the fourth different Wisconsin native to win the event in five races. The top five included four previous Seitz Memorial champions, as Diemel was followed home by 2009 champ Pat Doar, who finished second, 2010 champ Cody Skytland, who finished third, and two-time winner Brad Seng, who finished fourth. Dustin Strand rounded out the top five, and in doing so, secured his second NLRA series title in three years. Strand won by 32 points of last seasons' champion Brad Seng. An incredible 47 cars entered the show Thursday night, with drivers like Zach Johnson and Curt Gelling among some of the drivers rumored to show up for the rest of the weekend. The 2015 NLRA season comes to a close this Thursday night, September the 10th, when the series kicks off the 9th annual John Seitz Memorial weekend with the fifth running of the 'Prelude to the Johnny'. Thanks to Todd and Susan LaHaise of Buffalo Wild Wings, the feature winner will receive no less than $1,500, with the feature paying $300 to start. The race is scheduled to be the series' 25th appearance at the three-tenths mile oval on the Grand Forks County Fairgrounds. The race kicks off the three-day 9th annual John Seitz Memorial race weekend, culminating with the $9,200 to win 92 lap feature on Saturday night. The weekend of racing honors four-time NLRA series champion, and 26 time series feature winner John Seitz, who passed away in the winter of 2007.
The NLRA series takes to the track two times this week with races at two very different race tracks, first On Thursday night, July the 30th, at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, and on Saturday night, August the 1st at the Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, ND. First on Thursday night, the series makes its' third and final appearance this season, and 16th overall at the three-eighths mile oval on the Norman County Fairgrounds. Ricky Weiss in the No. 7 Derrick's Sandblasting Bloomquist, swept the fair races in June, with Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Black Diamond, Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Rivinius Ranch MasterSbuilt by JMR, and Dustin Strand, driver of the Q&Z Plumbing & Heating No. 71, also collecting top tens on both nights.
The NLRA is scheduled to race twice this weekend, first on Friday night at the River Cities Speedway, then on Saturday night at the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN. On Friday night, June the 19th, the NLRA makes its' 23rd appearance at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND, where the series will once again race alongside the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Black Diamond, broke a long winless streak at River Cities last June, the 21st win of his NLRA career.
Brad Seng won his 27th career NLRA series feature Saturday night at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN, while rain claimed night two Sunday night. On Saturday night, Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, took the lead from Cody Skytland, driver of the No. 75 Langdon Implement MastersBuilt by JMR, with 10 laps to go, and lead the remainder of the event. Jeff Wildung, in the Veit Companies No. 50 was running fourth with three to go when he went pitside, while Ricky Weiss in the No. 7 Derrick's Sandblasting Bloomquist and Zach Johnson, driver of the No. 73 Shaw Trucking Pierce swapped the third and fourth positions after Wildung's exit.
Northern Late Model Racing Association Preview - The 'Prelude to the Johnny ' at River Cities9/3/2014 The 2014 NLRA season comes to a close on Thursday night, September the 4th, at the River Cities Speedway, Grand Forks, ND, after the annual running of the 'Prelude to the Johnny'. Thursday's race is also scheduled to be the fourth series race at the three-tenths mile bullring in Grand Forks. Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Northstar Canada Victory Circle, won on June 20th for his first win at River Cities since September 2, 2011, as Balcaen took the lead from Pat Doar with five to go. Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport Mars MB Custom, won on August 15th, after taking the lead from Ricky Weiss, driver of the No. 7 Derrick's Sandblasting machine on lap 16 for his sixth series win on 2014. Ricky Weiss and Jeff Wildung each collected their 12th career NLRA series victories last weekend during the series' traditional labor day double header at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. Weiss won his second NLRA series feature of the season at the Viking Speedway on Saturday night. Weiss and Jeff Wildung battled for the lead early until Wildung broke while running second on lap 17. |
